'It's all for charity!'

In March a few of us were in the car returning from Warwick University where we had been working on an undergraduate consultancy project with Warwick Business School and an impromptu conversation sparked a spontaneous idea to have a Red Nose Day raffle. The inspired prize was an extra day of holiday allocation and tickets went for the bargain price of £10 or £5 if you wore red on the day. With a head-count of only 22, 7 Layer were delighted to be able to contribute ££125.00 to this worthy cause.

In April, Rebecca Grindley, a valued tester and 7 Layer employee since 2006, announced she was running in this year's Gloucester Race for Life at Hartpury College on June 21st. Race for Life is the UK's largest women only fundraising event, where women of all ages come together to raise money and walk, jog or run 5K to help Cancer Research UK prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

Rebecca says: 'Wearing pink and running are usually two things I steer clear of, but for reasons unknown to me and many I am taking part in the 5km race for life this year.'

In an effort to raise £300 she requested sponsorship donations from us and inspired the sadistic, yet good intentioned, side of her fellow colleagues with images of her 'embarrassing herself and possibly face planting from an inability to breathe.' Needless to say the imagery worked its magic on a fair few and her current total stands at £210.00.

Not to be left out, one of the relatively new members of the software development team, Dave Butt, advised us of his family's highly commendable efforts to raise money for charity. Dave's wife is doing the Hereford half-marathon with all contributions going to St Michael's Hospice and two of his kiddies, Jocelyn and Micah, are doing a 'toddle waddle'. All proceeds from this are to be donated to the Meningitis Trust.

Managing Director, Lee Maisner says: 'We are a small, very employee focused company that believes in looking after its staff and their families. As a result everyone applauds and supports charity work and, I am proud that even in the current climate of recession, the 7 Layer team are still able to generously give their personal money, energy and time in this way.'
